The so called “Coca-cola” route is the most used route since it only requires 7 to 8 days to reach the Uhuru Peak. For these visitors who need to be accompanied with friends and fellow climbers this route is the best for you. Advantage in this route first; few stations, secondly the use of Huts where they sell soft drinks too. This route is most popular during the month of July to September and December to March.

Your day-to-day- breakdown of this trip

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a private transfer awaits you to take you to a cozy Resort in Marangu. With the rest of the day to yourself, bask in the serene atmosphere and prepare for the adventure ahead. Attend a pre-climb briefing and equipment check at the resort, and ensure you have the required medical coverage and travel insurance.

Commence your journey by completing entrance formalities at the National Park gate (1,830 m). Ascend through untouched forest to the Maundi Crater clearing (2,700 m), with the option to explore Maundi Crater’s volcanic remains. Rest and enjoy the forest’s beauty or partake in an afternoon excursion. Camp at Mandara Hut.

Begin with a steep forest ascent, revealing grassy moorland and potential views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks in clear conditions. Ascend through moorland, graced by giant heather and intermittent groundsel, to reach Horombo Hut (3,720 m). Capture mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets, with Kibo’s glaciated dome nearby.

Embark on an excursion towards the base of the lesser-visited Mawenzi peak. Enjoy striking views of Kibo and the path to Gillman’s Point. The serene alpine landscape and peaceful ambiance make for a day of acclimatization. Spend a second night at Horombo Hut. (4-5 hours walking)

Gradually ascend to the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Experience the wilderness of high altitude as you reach Kibo Hut (4,700 m) by midday. Rest and prepare for the upcoming summit push. (4-6 hours walking)

Commence your summit ascent around 1 a.m., reaching Gillman’s Point by sunrise. The steep climb over volcanic scree, aided by zig-zags, leads to Gillman’s Point (5,685 m) in approximately five to six hours. Rest, absorb the sunrise, and consider the optional trip to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m). Descend swiftly, returning to Horombo Hut for the night. (11-15 hours walking)

Retrace your steps with a moorland walk to Mandara, followed by a serene forest journey to the National Park gates. Experience the striking contrast of lush forest after summit day. [5-6 hours walking]  Day 8:Your adventure concludes with a private transfer from Marangu to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
